About
Mini Audition is a free, native audio editor for the Mac: a small, fast alternative to a full DAW for listening, cutting, recording and mixing.
Mini Audition is a free audio editor for the Mac, a 7 MB download written natively in Swift. Its Metal-drawn waveform zooms smoothly from a whole album down to single samples, with a spectrogram a keystroke away. Tracks can be cut, recorded and run through 14 built-in effects or the Mac's Audio Unit plugins with live preview, or arranged on a multitrack timeline with buses, a mixer and mixdown. On Apple silicon, it splits a song into stems. Transcripts, titles, summaries and topic regions come from Apple's on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence, so audio never leaves the Mac. A session keeps every track, edit and mix in one file, with a snapshot at every save. There's no account, no ads and no tracking.
Highlights
- Metal waveform and spectrogram: smooth zoom from hours to individual samples
- Multitrack timeline: clips with fades and crossfades, coloured buses with effect chains and sends, volume and balance automation, delay compensation, mixdown with effect tails
- 14 effects with presets and live preview: parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, gate, noise reduction, saturation, distortion, chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, reverb, pitch shifter and a spectrum analyzer
- Repair: noise reduction from a noise print, and spectral editing to lower, remove or fill in a band of frequencies drawn on the spectrogram
- Delivery: a loudness report with true peak and loudness range against streaming, podcast and broadcast specs; export to WAV, AIFF, FLAC and AAC with dither, rate conversion, tags and cover art, and Broadcast WAV info, and to MP3 with LAME installed; batch processing of whole folders
- Audio Unit plugins on tracks and in the mixer, with their own windows; each runs in its own process, and sessions keep their settings
- Stem separation into vocals, drums, bass and the rest with Meta's Demucs, on the Mac's GPU (Apple silicon), lined up on lanes
- Recording with a live waveform, also onto a new lane while the mix plays, lined up with what you heard
- On-device transcription with clickable timestamps; title, summary and regions by topic from Apple Intelligence
- Sessions in one file, with a snapshot (and a picture of the window) at every save; Quick Look previews in Finder
- Loudness in LUFS, normalize to streaming targets, A/B switching, 0.5×–2× speed at the same pitch, export to WAV, AIFF and AAC
